Path to Motherhood After Loss

Louise's Success Story

Meet Louise, one of our Yogis. Louise and I connected through a shared experience: we had both endured two consecutive miscarriages. Our pain brought us together, along with a common purpose: to create something meaningful for our community.

Louise Premilla Denington

Louise joined the Still Mom project with passion and a deep desire to support other women going through the same experience. She also wanted to give voice to miscarriage and fertility struggles, because they can profoundly affect a woman’s sense of identity, purpose, and future. For many women, motherhood is a deeply held calling and form of self-expression. When that path is interrupted, it can raise painful questions about your self-worth and place in society. I truly understand this, because once the body begins preparing for motherhood, instinct can feel incredibly powerful, making loss even harder to bear (I shared my own story of  miscarriage here).

Alongside her work with us, Louise was also navigating her own fertility journey, struggling to achieve a healthy pregnancy. She wanted to share her story and support other women facing similar challenges. Over time, she came to understand that her nervous system and periods of chronic stress were playing a significant role in possible pregnancy. Indeed, high levels of ongoing stress can release hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline, which may disrupt the hormonal communication between the brain and reproductive organs and potentially delay or prevent conception. When the body remains in survival mode, it prioritizes protecting mother’s life versus fetus, which can make it harder to support a healthy pregnancy.

This insight came through her functional nutritionist. Once Louise understood the likely root causes (glucose regulation, structured eating, insulin resistance etc.), she embraced a holistic approach to fertility. Her nutritionist created a tailored plan, and Louise began eating according to a structured schedule. She also made stress reduction a priority. As a Yogi herself, she supported her body with breathing techniques, relaxation practices, and a conscious effort to avoid unnecessary stress. In many ways, she surrendered to the natural rhythm of life. IVF remained a possibility, but she also trusted in the body’s wisdom and the power of nature.

And then the miracle happened. Louise is delighted to share that she is now in the final stretch of pregnancy with a beautiful baby girl (37 weeks to be precise 🙂). We could not be happier for her and are grateful to celebrate this joyful new chapter. We will be waiting for her return into our project while she is celebrating this motherhood journey!

What does a holistic approach to the body mean? It means supporting a healthy pregnancy by combining physical nourishment, emotional balance, and gentle complementary care with standard medical supervision.

Nutrition and Hydration

  • Eat whole foods: Choose leafy greens, lean proteins, whole grains, and healthy fats rich in folate, iron, and calcium.
  • Stay hydrated: Drink water and safe herbal teas, such as ginger or red raspberry leaf, to support digestion and ease early discomfort.
  • Eat mindfully: Have small, frequent meals to maintain energy and manage nausea. Our nutritionists can tailor guidance to your blood type and genetics.

Movement and Physical Care

  • Stay active: Aim for 30 minutes of moderate movement, such as walking, swimming, or prenatal yoga, most days.
  • Try supportive therapies: Consider safe options like prenatal massage, acupuncture, chiropractic care, or our Yogi-led methods to ease tension and nervous system stress leaving you and your body more prepared for motherhood.

Mind-Body and Emotional Wellness

  • Manage stress: Use mindfulness, meditation, guided imagery, or breathwork to support emotional balance.
  • Rest and reflect: Prioritize sleep, journaling, or quiet reflection. Our psychologists can help calm your nervous system and build self-management tools.

Diagnosis and Testing

  • Check hormones: Our fertility specialist or reproductive endocrinologist can assess hormonal and reproductive factors affecting conception.
